Valentine’s Day in Algiers

Friday is the day of worship in Algeria and last Friday was 14 February, Valentine’s Day. Therefore, the theme of the 10.30 Morning Eucharist at Holy Trinity was ‘Saint Valentine’. The service was followed by a meal in the tradition of the early church.

In the afternoon we had organised an event that focussed on romantic Christian relationships, and how standing up for Christian relationships, in particular Christian marriage, can sometimes be costly but essential. The event was mainly aimed at students but a number of adults attended too. There was a talk, an interview of a couple who had been married for a number of years, and various question and answer sessions. It was a great day with eighty-four people in attendance. We hope to organise similar events in the future.
