St Matthew’s

St Matthew’s Anglican Church was established in Addis Ababa in 1924. The church moved to the present site in 1955, when it was given land by His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie. It has served an international community of Anglican Christians faithfully ever since.

We are a vibrant, multicultural community, celebrating the diversity of God’s people and seeking to live out Christ’s teaching in our varied contexts in and around Ethiopia’s capital city. Whilst we hold the strong Anglican tradition close to our hearts, our doors are wide open to everyone, regardless of their familiarity with Anglicanism or Christianity in general. At St Matthew’s we aim to foster an environment of learning and growth, where questions are welcomed and journeys of faith are embraced.

The Rt Revd Martin Reakes-Williams is their Rector.
