St. Bernard’s Wengen

The ‘English Church’, as it is locally known, opened in January 1928. Since then, tens of thousands of English-speaking people from all over the world have worshipped there, as have generations of local people. Situated in the beautiful Jungfrau region of Switzerland, many visit the church to reflect, pray, seek the chaplain’s help, and hear the good news of Jesus Christ. More information about St. Bernard’s . Walk up the main street going away from the Railway Station, past the Tourist Office to the cross-roads by the Bernerhof (hotel). Turn right. At the T-junction, turn right towards Hotel Berghaus and the church will come into view on the left-hand side, just before Hotel Berghaus.

St. Bernard’s was built and is maintained by ICS. Thanks largely to the generosity of a trust, we have been able during 2002 to make urgent repairs to the heating, exterior walls and drainage, improve safety by installing a fire exit and lightning conductor, and purchase pew Bibles.

If you would like to support the ‘English Churches’ in Wengen and Zermatt, you can become a Friend. Your support will help us maintain these important historic buildings, and enable the outreach. We will send you information about the work taking place in these chaplaincies bi-annually. Please contact the ICS office for more information on +44 (0) 24 7646 3940.
